Aluminium nitride is the name ending with "nitride".So it is a binary compound composed of Aluminum and nitrogen.Aluminium is less electronegative than nitrogen and has got same valency(=3) as that of nitrogen.Hence the formula of Aluminium nitride is #ALN#

The name aluminium nitrite ends with "nitrite".So this contains compound radical,nitrite #NO_2^-# composed of nitrogen and oxygen and the oxidation state of nitrogen in the radical is +3.It has valency 1.

Hence its formula is #Al(NO_2)_3#
