Given that #y# is in the direct variation of #x#. i.e., #y prop x#.

#:. y=kx,...........(1), where, k!=0#, is the const. of variation.

To determine #k#, we use the cond.: when, #x=-1.6, y=-4.8#.

From #(1)#, then, #k=y/x=-4.8/-1.6=3#.

Hence, #y=3x...........(2)#.

Now, to find #x#, when, #y=-24#, we see , from #(2)#, that,
