Definition

#log_bx=y# if and only if #b^y=x#

Logarithmic functions are the inverse of the exponential functions with the same bases.

Example

If you wan to find the value of

#log_2 8=?#,

then convert the question in terms of exponential function

#2^{?}=8=2^3 => ?=3#.

Hence, #log_2 8=3#.
