Producers synthesize their own food by the process of photosynthesis.

Explanation:

Producers are termed autotrophs . These plants have a green pigment called chlorophyll, which traps sunlight needed for the process of photosynthesis.

Photosynthesis occurs in 2 steps:

  1. Light reaction or Hill's reaction
  2. Dark reaction or Blackmann's reaction

Light reaction occurs in light. During this step, photolysis of water occurs in presence of light. #O_2# is liberated and solar energy is converted into #"ATP"# and the reducing power #"NADPH"# is produced.

During the dark reaction, #CO_2# is reduced to glucose ( #C_6H_12O_6#) in a series of steps with the help of #"ATP"# and #"NADPH"# produced during light reaction.

Glucose is converted later into starch and other organic compounds during various metabolic reactions.
