AC current is typically generated as a sine function.

This is the functional form of the voltage you would see when you rotate a conductive loop in a magnetic field. The voltage varies as the rate of change of the magnetic flux through the loop. When the loop is parallel to the field the voltage is zero. When it is perpendicular the voltage is at its maximum.
