What does a catalyst do to a chemical reaction rate and how does it accomplish that?

1 Answer

A catalyst increases the rate of a chemical reaction. It allows an alternate energy pathway for the chemical reaction, which has a lower activation energy. A catalyst does participate in the reaction, but it returns to its original state after the reaction. You will have the same amount of catalyst after the reaction as before the reaction.
