Is the function #f(x) = x^2# symmetric with respect to the x-axis?

No.
The symmetry about x- axis is so defined that if there is some point (a,b) on the graph, then point (a,-b) would also be on the that graph.
For example consider some point (3,9) on f(x)= x^2. It can easily be seen that (3, -9) does not lie on that graph
