#xy + 6x + 2y + 12#

We factor this expression by making groups of 2 terms
#= (xy + 6x) + (2y +12)#

Now we take the common factors out from each group
# = x( y + 6) + 2( y + 6)#

#( y + 6)# is a common factor to each of the terms now:

# = ( y + 6)(x + 2)#

# color(green)( ( y + 6)(x + 2))# is the Factorised form of #xy + 6x + 2y + 12#
