There is no whole figure to represent #sqrt2# so you would usually just write it as #sqrt2# for standard form however, if asked to answer in decimal place form you would write it as 1.414213562 or 1.4(1.d.p)

The square root of two is the number which when squared results in the value two.

That is #(sqrt(2))^2 = 2#

Actually it's slightly inaccurate to speak of the square root of two since it has two square roots.

#sqrt(2)# is the symbol we use for the positive square root of two.

#-sqrt(2)# is also a square root of two since #(-sqrt(2))^2 = 2#
