If my dad has the AB blood group, my mom has the O blood group. What blood group will I be? A, B or AB?

1 Answer

A or B

Explanation:

If someone with AB (alleles #i^A# and #i^B#) has children with someone with O blood type (alleles #i# and #i#), 50% of the children will be A, 50% of the children will be B.

As the person with the O blood type can only pass on the #i# gene, the children's blood type depends on the other parent.

If the other parent (the biological father) passes on the #i^A# gene, then the child will have A blood type (#i^A# and #i^B# are dominant over #i#). On the other hand, if the biological father passes on the #i^B# gene, the child will have B blood type.

Actually the offspring will carry O but will express A or B. You have to take the recessive in to account when determining the blood type of your offspring.
