How is projectile motion affected by gravity?

When a projectile is projected upwards with some initial velocity with some angle with the horizontal, it is only because of gravity that it follows a parabolic path and comes down. Or else, it would continue to go upward with constant velocity. (though it's velocity would decrease due to air resistance but, that decrease is negligible and decreases very slowly.)
