The following is the explanation.

Explanation:

Chlorophyll is a pigment and pigments are known to absorb some light wavelengths and reflect the others. The ones which are reflected are the colors that we see.

Chlorophyll has several types, some reflect green, some reflect orange light, and some reflect other shades of the spectrum. The most predominant one in plants is the one that gives the green color. Other types are available but in small amounts in the leaf.

In autumn and before the leaves shed, the green chlorophyll is broken for the plant to absorb the magnesium in it, and as a result the colors of the other chlorophyll types show. This is why leaves change in color into orange or other colors in autumn.
