You balance it stoichiometrically.

Explanation:

This is NOT the stoichiometric equation:

#Al(s) + 3HCl(aq) rarr AlCl_3(aq) + 2H_2(g)#

How would you modify it so that the left had side is equivalent to the right hand side? You can certainly use half-coeffcients, #1/2# or #3/2#!

Balance Cl.

There are now 3 Cl atoms on both sides.

Balance H.
