The orbit of the Earth does affect its temperature.

Explanation:

The Earth orbits at around 1 Astronomical Unit (93 million miles or 150 million kilometers) from the Sun and the energy received by the Earth from the Sun is sufficient enough to keep temperature tolerable. If the Earth orbited away further, temperatures would be colder and if it orbited closer, temperatures would be hotter. The orbit of the Earth around the Sun is at a perfect distance...for now.
