Why are cell membranes important?

1 Answer

Cell membranes are important because they control what is allowed to enter/leave a cell.

Explanation:

Cells need to bring in supplies (nutrients) and get rid of wastes in order to maintain homeostasis .

The cell membrane is involved in both passive transport (diffusion and osmosis) and active transport (endocytosis, exocytosis, sodium-potassium pump are examples).

Here are a few videos which discuss the cell membrane and types of transport into/out of cells.

Hope this helps!
