A gastrointestinal transit time measures the time taken for your food to exit your large intestine, from the time you consume it.
Explanation:
GI transit time, also called bowel transit, means the time between your food entering your mouth to the same food, turned into feces, exiting you colon. It depends on the overall motility of your GI tract which is controlled by involuntary nervous systems. It may be changed in diseased states such as in cholera and other diarrheas GI transit may be shortened by quite a bit where as in case of obstructions and diabetic neuropathy it may be lenghthened.
