Stars are not magnified by telescopes. Telescopes collect more light and make it brighter.
Explanation:
Since stars are very far away we can not see the disk of star except Sun..They are point source of light.
Pl antes are magnified and more details are visible depends upon the distance to planet and the diameter of the object mirror.
Due to chromatic aberration and spherical aberration refractors are not used in astronomy. Most of the large telescopes are Reflectors with mirror as objective
With medium type telescopes you can see the crescent phase of Venus, Ice caps on mars. Rings of Saturn,bands and red spot on Jupiter and few satellites of planets.. Larger the telescope more details you can see on planets.
Telescope do three things
1 They collect mo re light.So faint objects are visible
2 They resolve close objects.
3 They magnify images. so you can see details.
