First calculate the surface area of the entire figure. You can then subtract the bottom.

Explanation:

S.A = #(6 xx 4 xx 2) + (4 xx 3 xx 2) + (6 xx 3 xx 2) - (6 xx 4)#

S.A = #48 + 24 + 36 - 24#

S.A = 84 inche#s^2#

84 square inches of gold foil was used to cover the box.

Practice exercises:

  1. The following prism is a package of Toblerone chocolates. Assuming that the logo Toblerone is etched on #1/8# of the total surface area, find the surface area that the logo covers, rounded to the nearest hundredth
