Rice crops in S.E. Asia are mostly grown by hand and hasn't changed much in 1000 years or more. Grain farming in North America has become highly mechanized and also highly dependent on fossil fuels. Growing flowers is a relatively new crop for Kenya and they ship them on a plane to flower markets in Europe the same day I think.
