For saturated aliphatic aldehyde the general name is alkanal
For straight chain saturated compound with one`-CHO`group
First count the no, of carbon atom in the longest chain including the carbon atom of the functional group and write stem name accordingly and finally add ane (for saturated compound)and suffix name al after stem name

Example
`CH_3CH_2CH_2CH_2CHO`
total no of carbon atom in the chain = 5 ,so stem name = pent
and adding ane and suffix -al we have the name
pent + ane +al=pentanal
