The inverse can be found algebraically by switching the x and y values.

#y = -3x + 1#

#x = -3y + 1#

#x - 1 = -3y#

#-(x - 1)/3 = y#

#-1/3(x - 1) = y#

#-1/3(x - 1) = f^-1(x)#

This is a linear relation and therefore a function (all linear relations are functions).
