Unlike the other seismic waves, Primary waves move through solids liquids. They are also the fastest type of wave, however, due to their lower amplitude, they are the least destructive.

Secondary waves are the second fastest, second most destructive and have the second highest amplitude but only travel through solids.

Surface waves are the slowest, most destructive and have the highest amplitude. They travel along the surface of the planet between two different mediums (e.g. rock and air).
