Most fossil fuels are hydro carbons.They are used a fuel.
Explanation:
When we burn them carbon di oxide is produced along with heat.We use this heat to make energy.
Some fuels like coal also,produce lot of Ash which is harmful for environment
We extract the heat from combustion ans use it to drive engines or use heat for process work..
main reaction is C + O2= C o 2. +heat.
