Are Applied Force and Acceleration the same?

I'm correcting the work assigned to me in Physics30S and cannot find notes where they say that Applied Force and Acceleration are different variables.

No, these are not the same.

Explanation:

We know that
#F=m.a#

#"Units of Force" ="Newton"#
#"Units of mass" ="kilogram"#
#"Units of Acceleration"="meter.second"^-2#
#:."Newton"="kilogram"xx "meter. second"^-2#
#=>"Newton"!="meter. second"^-2#

Alternatively one can do dimensional analysis and show the same.
