Explanation:

There are two polynomial equalities that will help us.
#(x-a)(x-a)=x^2-a^2# and #(x + a)^2=x^2+2ax+a^2#
Analyzing the numerator #x^4-y^4 = (x^2+y^2)(x^2-y^2)#
At the denominator we have
#x^4+2x^2y^2+y^4=(x^2+y^2)^2# and #x^2-2xy+y^2=(x-y)^2#
Putting all together
