Dalton's law of partial pressures states that in a gaseous mixture, the pressure exerted by a component is the same as if that component ALONE occupied the container..........

Explanation:

......The total pressure is the sum of the individual partial pressures.

So we have a gaseous mixture of gases #A#, #B#, #C#, etc.

#P_"Total"# #=# #P_A+P_B+P_C...............#

Reasonably we can idealize gas behaviour, i.e. #P_A=(n_ART)/V#

#P_"Total"# #=# #(n_ART)/V+(n_BRT)/V+(n_CRT)/V...............# #=# #(RT)/V{n_a+n_B+ n_C...............}#.

We can thus say that the partial pressure of a gas in a gaseous mixture is proportional to its mole fraction.
