What are some treatments for Seasonal Affective Disorder?
1 Answer
Light therapy seems to work for many people and has some scientific documentation in its support.
Explanation:
Seasonal Affective Disorder is related to seasonal changes in the amount of sunlight we receive particularly for those living in the northern hemisphere. Somehow, the shorter days disrupt our natural circadian rhythm and it affects or mood.
The use of light therapy techniques have been demonstrated to relieve symptoms by helping to restore our natural circadian rhythm.
Scientific work is still underway to determine which end of the visible spectrum (or all of it) is optimal for light therapy. Note: light therapy for SAD is not the same as UV tanning beds, which are very dangerous for anyone to use due to the risk of contracting skin cancer.
