The Kansas-Nebraska Act allowed people in the territories of Kansas and Nebraska to vote whether or not slavery should be allowed in that region. The idea of popular sovereignty plays a role here since the citizens are choosing for themselves.

Explanation:

In the time when slavery caused tensions between the North and the South, the Kansas-Nebraska act was created to make the choice fair.

Many people traveled to the region to vote. People also committed violent attacks against each other. This act may have been the single most important event leading to the civil war.

Kansas even earned the name "Bleeding Kansas" due to the violence about slavery.
