#37/24 = 1 13/24#

Explanation:

When adding fractions, they need to be written as equivalent fractions with the same denominator. (LCD)

Working though the multiples of the largest denominator is a quick way to find the LCD. Note that we do not even need to consider 4, because 4 is a factor of 8.

8, 16, 24, 32 ..... 24 will work for 4, 6 and 8

#3/4 +5/8 +1/6#

=# (3xx6)/(4xx6) + (5xx3)/(8xx3) + (1xx4)/(6xx4)#

=# (18+15+4)/24#

=#37/24 = 1 13/24#

#3/4+5/8+1/6=1 13/24#

Explanation:

#3/4+5/8+1/6# has denominators #4#, #8# and #6# and their GCD (or LCM) is #24#. Hence,

#3/4+5/8+1/6#

= #(3×6)/(4×6)+(5×3)/(8×3)+(1×4)/(6×4)#

= #18/24+15/24+4/24#

= #(18+15+4)/24#

= #(18+6+9+4)/24#

= #(24+13)/24#

= #24/24+13/24#

= #1 13/24#
