Antidiuretic hormone (ADH); lack of ADH can cause diabetes insipidus.
Explanation:
The name antidiuretic hormone (ADH) means against urine flow, also called vasopressin.
ADH is essential for the regulation of the fluid volume and osmolarity of the body, because it regulates the water resorption by the kidneys. ADH normally stimulates resporption of water and hence decreases the amount of urine produced.
When not enough ADH is secreted or the kidneys are unresponsive to the hormone, the body excretes too much water. This causes a disease called diabetes insipidus. The main symptoms are excessive urination and extreme thirst.
