There is not any fixed formula which gives you the mass of any particular substance like the formula's for calculating mole fraction, calculating number of moles etc.

The most common formula which is used for calculating the mass of a substance in chemistry is the formula which is used for calculating the density of a substance. Originally, the formula used for calculating the density of a substance can be given as :

  • Density of a substance = Mass / Volume

If we want to calculate the mass of the substance such that we have been provided with the volume and the density of the substance then we can multiply both the sides by the volume of the substance:

  • Density x volume = Mass x volume/ volume

In this way the formula for the mass of the substance will be :

  • MASS OF A SUBSTANCE = VOLUME X DENSITY
