Brain stem controls respiration
Explanation:
The portion of brain connecting brain and spinal cord is known as brain stem. In the brain stem there are centers regulating rate and depth of respiration. These are activated if oxygen and carbon dioxide level in air is changed. When there is low oxygen in air e.g. at high altitude rate of respiration increases to provide more oxygen to body. In short there is respiratory center in brain stem to regulate respiration
