Explanation:

While much of life on earth is exposed to light daily and is part of a food web that starts with photosynthetic plants, this is not always the case.

Some organisms use chemosynthesis instead of photosynthesis. Instead of using light, chemosynthesis relies on chemical energy. Inorganic molecules, such as methane and hydrogen sulfide, are used in place of sunlight.

Chemosynthesis is found in organisms inhabiting very deep water where sunlight does not penetrate.
