So either the universe is eternal or energy:matter was created in some time past in a method not occurring presently.

Energy:matter is always increasing in entropy ( that is a higher degree of disorder, and a lower degree of usable energy:matter)

The universe has been observed ( 1992) to be expanding at an every increasing rate. This means that the universe will not "recycle". There will be no big crush or return to the state of the universe at the beginning called the big bang.

This means that our universe which we can observe is not eternal it will end in a "heat death" a point where everything is near absolute zero and there is no usable energy:matter left.
