To revive interest in traditional Japanese Art forms that were perceived to be on the the decline because of western influences of the Meiji Restoration.
Explanation:
Tokyo School of Fine Art was established in 1889. Although it became inclusive of western painting styles the original 3 departments were Japanese painting, sculpture and crafts.
2 Major driving forces in its establishment were Ernest F. Fenollosa and Okakura Kakuzo.
