How many presidents did not attend college?
1 Answer
Seven definitely had no college, and another five had some college of some sort or other but no degree.
Explanation:
Surprisingly, at least to me, the list is quite long. I'm going to take the question to mean "who didn't earn a college degree in college" and include in this list those who, along with those who didn't attend college at all, dropped out of college without a degree, or earned a certificate of some sort:
-
George Washington (earned a surveyor's license at William & Mary, but no degree)
-
Abraham Lincoln (no college at all)
-
Andrew Jackson (no college at all)
-
Martin Van Buren (no college at all)
-
Zachary Taylor (no college at all)
-
Millard Fillmore (no college at all)
-
Andrew Johnson (no college at all)
-
Grover Cleveland (no college at all)
-
Harry Truman (dropped out of a business college after attending a semester, and later attended some night school at a local Law college)
-
James Monroe (dropped out of William & Mary to join the Continental Army)
-
William Henry Harrison (dropped out of UPenn without a degree)
-
William McKinley (dropped out after a year at Allegheny College, later attended Law School but didn't graduate - was still admitted to the bar)
Forty-three people have been US President (this takes us up to Barak Obama who is President #44 - Grover Cleveland was both the 22nd and 24th President). So of that number, 7 definitely had no college, and another 5 had some college of some sort or other but no degree.
