Silviculture refers to the science or practice of controlling and managing forest growth, health, and composition.

Explanation:

Silviculture refers to the science or practice of controlling and managing forest growth, health, and composition. Silviculture is a subset of forestry with its basis in the biology of trees. It is an applied science.

Silviculture practices can improve the growth rate of a tree or increase forest diversity. A forester or resource manager looking to improve the resiliency of a strand of trees after a natural disaster needs to have adequate knowledge of forest biology and ecosystem structure in order to know which techniques to use.

Silviculture practices can include pruning, thinning, fertilizing, and harvesting in order to control the density, structure, and composition of a strand of trees. The image below shows how the structure and composition of a hypothetical forest changes depending on the technique used.
