Agriculture, industry, transportation, urbanization.

Explanation:

In agriculture, water use (from surface or groundwater abstractions) affects water cycle. Sometimes downstream parts of a stream becomes dry since upstream users utilize vast amount of water to irrigate their vegetables or trees (fields). Therefore, surface flow could be interrupted and groundwater cannot be fed in downstream parts (example: Orontes River, in Antakya (Hatay)).

In industry, some use lots of water (such as mining operations). If they depend on groundwater resources, they cause water depletion in quantity and in water level (water table) sometimes totally dry up in such places.

In urban areas, runoff is large but (infiltration) groundwater feeding is low due to roads, buildings and other paved areas. Therefore, groundwater is renewed only a little in urbanized centers.

There are many examples given in this issue. I am right now working on rainwater collection canals, their water quality and developing a zeolite filter to minimize pollution brought by rainwater collection system in Çanakkale.
