Hepatitis is an infection of liver, but could be caused by various types of viral particles.

Explanation:

Hepatitis A and E are infections caused by ingestion of contaminated food and drink, i.e. the transmission is through faecal-oral route.

Hepatitis B and C are transmitted when there is exposure to infected blood or body fluid. Transfusion of blood or intravenous drug use could be the causes of transmission. There is considerable risk of transmission from infected mother to new born as well.

Hepatitis B is also transmitted through sexual contact. The virus is present in saliva, semen and vaginal secretion of patients. It is the most deadly of all hepatitis: liver becomes permanently damaged, may lead to cirrhosis and cancer.
