Make a list of x values and their corresponding y values. Plot the (x,y) coordinates on the y against x axes. Join the dots and the straight-line graph is obtained.

Explanation:

For example:

When x=-2 , y=(-2)-4=-6 .
When x=0 , y=(0)-4=-4 .
When x=3 , y=(3)-4=-1 .
When x=4 , y=(4)-4=0 .
And so on...

By plotting the coordinates of (-2,-6), (0,-4), (3,-1), (4,0), etc. , the points obtained will form a straight line with an equation y=x-4.
