The body releases hormones like adrenaline when it thinks it is in danger, to prepare yourself to run, to jump or to do whatever is necessary to survive. If the heart is beating faster, the oxygen will reach the brain and the limbs faster, allowing them to react faster. That's also why you are stronger in dangerous situations, or why your body gets in shock to avoid feeling the pain
