How does deforestation affect the water cycle?

I'm not a teacher, just a student, but I'll try my best.

Trees have roots to cling onto the soil.
When deforestation happens, especially beside water bodies, there is no more trees to cling onto the loose soil so when there's rain, the loose soil washes into the water body and pollutes it. Chances of flooding also increases. This pretty much disrupts the water cycle and everyone's life.

I know this is not the best answer, but hope this helps a little.
