What are the effects of visual pollution?
1 Answer
Light pollution causes disorientation of some animals
Explanation:
I would like to provide an answer to your question in detail. Light pollution (caused by summer resorts or hotels) cause disorientation of baby sea turtles. A mother turtle lay its eggs 40 to 60 cm deep on sand beaches (in many countries, including mine (Turkey)). After some time, the baby turtles (when develop successfully) try to go upwards and then they walk through sea. However, if summer resorts, houses, etc. are present and their lights are on, they walk through lighted area (not to sea). Of course, if it happens, they cannot survive.
Since light pollution is a visual pollution, this is a serious problem.
Another example of visual pollution is solid wastes lying on the ground. Yes it will take time to get rid of this pollution due to wind, rain, sun, etc. but if the case is everaccumulating, it will cause serious problems. First of all plastics are synthetic materials. When they will decay, microplastics form and these cause bioaccumulation (of plastics) in food chain.
Plastics (and light garbage) minimize photosynthesis since when they end up on tree branches, leaves, and other parts of trees, bushes, etc., they harm such living things.
From the point of aesthetics, visual pollution is a concern for considerate people. Of course, some nations do not care about it. However, you can easily tell lifestyle of people living in a specific location if you see visual pollution on land, water courses, etc.
