As long as you wish... but the longer ones tend to be overlooked, unless they are well-written.
Which do you want to read?
- I hypothesize that the atom is mostly empty space.
or
- Consider the so-called atom, a particle which we assume makes up all matter; since gold can be pounded into very thin sheets, I hypothesize that if I shoot
#alpha# particles through a thin sheet of gold, that if everything bounces off, then the atom is extremely dense and tightly-packed, because of the thinness of the sheet; otherwise, the atom is mostly empty space.
Of course, the latter may be more interesting, but the former is more concise. Up to you.
