Take #3x# to the other side because you do not want 2 separate #x#'s.

#5x-3x+30=12#

#2x+30=12# (Simplify so that there is only 1 #x#.)

Take the 30 to the other side.

#2x=-18#

Now take 2 to the other side and divide it so now, #x# will equal #-9#.
