Golgi complex

Explanation:

The Golgi complex (also called the Golgi body or Golgi apparatus) is largely responsible for the packaging, modification, and transportation of cell products such as proteins and lipids.

As proteins or lipids move from the cis face to the trans face of the Golgi apparatus, they become modified by the Golgi. Some modifications that the cell product could undergo are

  • phosphorylation (addition of phosphate groups)
  • addition of an oligosaccharide on a lipid (to form a glycolipid)

Once they have been altered, the molecules are packaged into vesicles and sent to specific locations either inside or outside of the cell. Examples of target destinations could be a lysosome or the cell membrane.
