  2. Absorption spectrum

The absorption spectrum is obtained by giving energy to an isolated hydrogen atom and then passing the light energy released by it through a prism to get a spectrum.

The emission spectrum is obtained by passing the light emitted by an excited sample of hydrogen through a prism which forms an emission spectrum
