In rearranging equations, there is one rule: whatever you do to what's one on side of the '=' sign, do the same to the other side.

In this case
#y = 8/9x-2#

There are a few different ways to approach this, but let's try it this way:

#9x − 8y = 16#

Subtract #9x# from both sides:

#-8y = -9x+16#

Multiply both sides by #-1#:

#8y = 9x - 16#

Divide both sides by #8#:

#y = 8/9x - cancel(16)/cancel(8) = 8/9x-2#

So our solution is
#y = 8/9x-2#
