Lymphatic system is composed of lymph (tissue fluid) and lymph vessels.

Explanation:

Just like the circulatory system is composed of blood and blood vessels; the lymphatic system is composed of lymph, lymph nodes and lymph vessels.

Lymph is tissue fluid which circulates in lymph vessels at a much slower rate than blood. It is the extracellular fluid that surrounds each one of our cells. This extra cellular fluid penetrates the membrane of the capillaries (the thinnest vessels), to keep the volume of lymph fluid constant and to allow the waste products to leave the cells and be carried away to the venous blood stream and evacuated. It plays a crucial role in detoxification and defence.

The lymph nodes are aggregation of tissue that help in maturation of WBC.

Their tasks are manifold, but always aiming at the defense of the body and purification of the body fluids to maintain its proper functioning.
