The "Weeping Time" was a name given, primarily by slaves and their descendants to one of the largest slave auctions to ever occur in America. It occurred on March 2 and 3 1859 just outside Savannah, Georgia.

During the auction 436 men, women and children were auctioned to help satisfy creditors of Pierce M. Butler.

The event was given the name the Weeping Time because of reports that the sky opened up and poured down rain for the full two days of the auction. It was said that the heavens were weeping for the inhumanity that was being committed.
